UN chief strongly condemns Kabul attack that killed at least 90 civilians

Condemning the Afghan blast that killed at least 90 people in capital Kabuls diplomatic centre, the UN underscored that all parties to the conflict are obliged, under international law, to ensure that civilians are protected from any harm. Those responsible for the attack must be brought to justice, UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric quoted Secretary-General António Guterres as saying on Wednesday (31 May). He also underlined the need to reinforce the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.A bomb, concealed in a water delivery truck, went off during Kabuls rush hour when roads are packed with commuters on 31 May. The blast went off near Zanbaq Square — a highly secure area of the capital that is home to many embassies, diplomatic missions, the Presidential Palace and the Foreign Ministry. Kenya marks industrial milestone as standard gauge railway transferred from China

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the standard gauge railways (SGR) first cargo train following its transferal from China. The train transported goods loaded from Mombasa port.The construction of the SGR was initiated in Dec 2014 by CRBC. It has a length of 480km and is the first overseas SGR entirely meeting Chinese standards. The final completion of the SGR is believed to be a win-win achievement for China-Africa cooperation under the framework of Belt and Road Initiative. May 31, 2017
