Venkaiah Naidu lauds tabling of goods and service tax bill in Parliament

New Delhi, Dec 24 (ANI): Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu lauded the Goods and Service Tax (GST) bill presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the parliament during its winter session, saying once implemented the bill will be one of the most far reaching tax reforms since independence. Jaitley had on December 19 tabled GST bill, pressing on with a key piece of reform to replace a myriad range of state taxes. The bill introduced by Jaitley needs the support of two thirds of members of parliament as well as ratification by state legislatures which is expected to happen by the next session of parliament. Congress leader G Venkat Swamy passes away after prolonged illness

New Delhi, Dec 23 (ANI): Former union minister and senior Congress leader G Venkat Swamy passed away at a private hospital in Hyderabad. Swamy, 85, had been in poor health for some time and was undergoing treatment but on Sunday his condition got worse. Popularly known as 'Kaka', the leader was elected to the assembly of the undivided Andhra Pradesh in 1950 and held several key positions in the government as well in the party. He served in the Indira Gandhi and PV Narasimha Rao Governments and also was Pradesh Congress Chairman for Andhra Pradesh. To add to the festive fervour, the annual cake show in Bengaluru city in Karnataka is back. 75-years-old, Ramachandran has been organising this festival for the last 40 years. The highlight this year is a 25x22 feet cake replica of the Indian parliament. A member of the organising team, Gautam, said it took three months for almost 30 people to finish this mega project. Like every year, this year too, the cake show is attracting thousands of visitors.
