India disapproves European parliament resolution backing Italian marines' return

New Delhi, Jan 16 (ANI): India on Friday (January 16) expressed disapproval with European parliament adopting a resolution calling for the repatriation of the two Italian marines undergoing trail in the killing of two fishermen. MEA Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that the European parliament should not have adopted such a resolution when the case, dating back to February 2012, was still sub-judice. The European parliament in Strasbourg on Thursday (January 15) adopted a resolution on the case of two Italian marines accused in India of killing two Indian fishermen, which called for the pair to be allowed to return to Italy, saying that holding them in India without charges was a "grave violation of human rights". Finance Minister Jaitley holds pre-budget meet with IT sector representatives

New Delhi, Jan 15 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley met representatives of Information Technology (hardware and software) sector ahead of the budget to discuss issues faced by the industry. Jaitley is due to present the BJP-led government's 2015/16 budget and its fiscal deficit target to parliament at the end of February. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Infosys, Vishal Sikka praised Jaitley for making an effort to meet everyone for pre-budget consultations. The budget statement will be preceded by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) policy meeting on February 03, with some speculation that the central bank could lower its key interest rate, which has stayed unchanged at 8 percent since January 2014. Canberra, Jan 15 (ANI): Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott spoke to Australian radio station from his office in Parliament House in Canberra commenting on the cover of the French magazine Charlie Hebdo. He welcomed the cover page of the weekly satirical magazine and said that the cartoon saying 'all is forgiven' gave out a positive message. It is the first edition of Charlie Hebdo to be published after the deadly attacks by Islamist gunmen and sold out within minutes at newspaper kiosks around France on Wednesday, with people queuing up to buy copies to support the satirical weekly. Satish Upadhyay to oversee BJP's Delhi poll campaign

New Delhi, Jan 14 (ANI): The chief of the Delhi unit of the BJP, Satish Upadhyay, will oversee the party's poll campaign for the February 7 assembly elections in Delhi. The BJP has announced that Upadhyay will head the 21-member Election Committee for the poll campaign. The committee's members include all seven Delhi Members of Parliament-Harsh Vardhan, Meenakshi Lekhi, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, Udit Raj, Manoj Tiwari, Ramesh Bidhuri and Mahesh Girri. Apart from these MPs, Rajya Sabha member and former Delhi BJP President Vijay Goel, senior party leaders Jagdish Mukhi and Vijay Kumar Malhotra are part of the Election Committee.
