Snowfall in Kashmir intensifies cold wave

Udhampur/ Dharamsala, Jan 23 (ANI): Tourists thronged Jammu and Kashmir and experienced snowfall, which intensified cold wave in northern parts of the country. People from the plains flocked Udhampur district to enjoy fresh snowfall as temperatures reached minus two degree Celsius. The mountainside was covered with a blanket of snow, speckled by the visitors who were seen having snowball fights. Meanwhile, rainfall in hill town of Dharamsala plummeted temperatures, forcing people to stay indoors. PETA urges PM Modi to discuss greenhouse gas emissions from meat production with Obama

New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): Animal rights organisation, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), demonstrated in New Delhi on Thursday to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss greenhouse gas emissions caused by meat processing with US President Barack Obama, who arrives in India on January 25. Obama was invited by Modi and will be the first US president to attend Republic Day celebrations on January 26. PETA activists braved the rain and Delhi winter as they stood painted in colours of national flags of the two countries and held placards urging people to go vegan in order to combat climate change. Organiser, Puneet Sharma, said meat production and processing is responsible for the emission of a major chunk of greenhouse gases. The United States and India are expected to announce efforts to work together to combat climate change ahead of key global talks in Paris later this year. Jan 22, 2015
