Srinagar, Feb 10 (ANI): Separatists called for shutdown in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday to protest killing of youth during demonstration in the valley. Hurriyat Conference appealed people to observe a complete shutdown. A youth named Farooq Ahmad Bhat was killed when forces allegedly opened fire on a group of stone-pelting protesters in Palhallan area of north Kashmir on Monday. The youths were demanding the mortal remains of Afzal Guru - a Kashmiri --who was hanged in New Delhi jail for attacking parliament on December 13, 2001. Guru, who was held guilty in the case, was given death sentence by a Delhi court on December 18, 2002, after being convicted of conspiracy to attack parliament and waging war against the country and murder. Recently, the "Decade plus 1" founders day of the academy was celebrated at NIAPA campus in Dimapur. Actress and Member of Parliament, Moon Moon Sen inaugurated the event titled Decade plus1'. The budding designers from the Institute showcased their work as the kids walked the ramp in designer outfits. The academy regularly organizes many fashion shows, events, and seminars in India and abroad to showcase the skills of their students to a wider audience. Kashmiri separatist leader calls for complete shutdown

Srinagar, Feb 09 (ANI): Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Monday called for complete shutdown in Kashmir to observe death anniversary of Mohammad Afzal Guru, who was executed for masterminding militant attack on Parliament in New Delhi. All the shops remained closed and traffic was off the roads in Srinagar as well as other parts of the valley. The normal business was affected due to the non availability of traffic. Meanwhile, the state government imposed a curfew across Srinagar to prevent protest rallies on the day. Security forces anticipating unrest have imposed curfew in Srinagar and ordered people off the streets. Police officers and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have stepped up surveillance across the city. Jammu, Feb 07 (ANI): Kashmir is holding elections for four seats in the upper house of parliament with seven candidates in the fray. Prominent among those whose fate will be decided is Congress' Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha. Jammu and Kashmir Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, whose regional National Conference (NC) party is supporting Azad, was among those who cast their votes. Besides Azad, the other contestants are Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) Mir Mohammad Fayaz and Nazir Ahmad Laway; BJP's Shamsher Singh and Chander Mohan Sharma; and Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo and Nasir Aslam Wani of NC.
