Steve Jobs, a controversial look at the late Apple co-founder that floundered at the box office despite warm reviews, took Golden Globes for Kate Winslet and Aaron Sorkin in the best supporting actress, drama and best screenplay categories respectively. California Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency on 6 January, following a gas leak that sent huge clouds of methane into the skies.
