Boating introduced in Manipur's Loktak Lake to attract tourists

Manipur, Feb 08 (ANI): Situated in the Bishnupur district, some 48 kilometers from Imphal, the Loktak Lake stretches up to 250 square kilometer area. One of the largest freshwater lakes of India, Loktak is also home to the world's only floating National park, Keibul Lamjao National Park. Surrounded by hills, the scenic beauty of the lake and the rich biodiversity attracts large crowds. Recently, the Loktak Lake Tourism Development Society introduced boating facility to attract tourists. There are more than 20 boats of different passenger capacity to ferry tourists across the lake. Some of these boats are fitted with music system and serve meal during the ride. The fare per person for a trip is Rs.20 to Rs .200, depending upon the hiring time and facilities. Tourists can now enjoy nature from close while boating in Loktak Lake. A large number of migratory birds flock the lake every winter. Feb 8, 2015

It happens : Bike stunts, car pulling attract people to rural sports festival

Ludhiana, Feb 6 (ANI): Spectators thronged Punjab state to witness various stunts on bikes, cycles and horses during the 79th edition of Kila Raipur Rural Sports Festival. Also known as ‘Rural Olympics’, the sporting festival attracts athletes who compete with each other and perform stunts. The sporting event started in 1933 with just wrestling and athletics. Now the event showcases a plethora of rural and modern sports.The weightlifting event also comes with a twist as instead of standard weights, participants lift tyres, wooden stairs, bicycles and large logs of wood. Over the years, this sporting event has assumed huge popularity with people coming to see and participate from all over Punjab and neighbouring states. The place was packed with audience. Alternative farming gives ray of hope to Aurangabad Farmers

Aurangabad, Feb 06 (ANI): Two brothers in Maharashtra have cultivated sweet limes in lieu of regular winter crops through innovative technique, using less water. The duo - Anil Chaudhary and Sunil Chaudhary - of Aurangabad district have come up with alternative farming of sweet limes to keep their cultivation going and earn their bread and butter. Anil planted around 1,500 sweet limes saplings in his eight acres of dried farm by taking loan from a bank. He connected his farm to a water body through pipe line which is situated 5-6 km away from his farm to save his cultivation from getting dried up. He said the farmers should not succumb to depression of not repaying the loans. India has two crops: Kharif - which is sown in summer and harvested during winter and Rabi - which are sown in winter and harvested in summer season. Feb 6, 2015

Heavy snowfall disrupts normal life in Kashmir

Ramban/ Shimla, Feb 04 (ANI): Heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir hit electricity, water and blocked national highway, disrupting normal life. Roads in Ramban area were filled with snow making it difficult for vehicles to ply due to which people had to walk long distances carrying their luggage. National Highway-44 was completely blocked, restricting transportation. State's capital city, Srinagar, on Sunday (February 01) had received season's first snowfall bringing cheers to residents. However, snowfall did not bring much delight to residents of Ramban district. As per local media reports, the weather department has predicted snowfall for next three days. The minimum temperature recorded was minus 0.2 degree Celsius. Reportedly, an avalanche warning has also been issued in higher reaches of the valley. Meanwhile, hill town of Shimla also received three to 90 centimeters of fresh snowfall. Minimum temperature recorded was two degree Celsius.
