New Delhi, Dec 26 (ANI): Political leaders on Friday said that distribution of enhanced compensation cheques by Home Minister Rajnath Singh to the victims of 1984 riots is taking place in the wake of upcoming polls in Delhi. The leaders said that BJP's steps are now being taken in the wake of Delhi assembly elections as the same is very crucial for the party. Meanwhile, BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao said that this was a poll promise made by the BJP and the distribution is happening to fulfill that promise. Singh will distribute the cheques of enhanced compensation to the next of the kin of the 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims at Tilak Vihar. Dec 26, 2014

Congress leader G Venkat Swamy passes away after prolonged illness

New Delhi, Dec 23 (ANI): Former union minister and senior Congress leader G Venkat Swamy passed away at a private hospital in Hyderabad. Swamy, 85, had been in poor health for some time and was undergoing treatment but on Sunday his condition got worse. Popularly known as 'Kaka', the leader was elected to the assembly of the undivided Andhra Pradesh in 1950 and held several key positions in the government as well in the party. He served in the Indira Gandhi and PV Narasimha Rao Governments and also was Pradesh Congress Chairman for Andhra Pradesh.
