Japanese Trade Minister Kazuyoshi Akaba eyes strong relationship with India

New Delhi, July 31 (ANI): Japanese trade and industry minister, Kazuyoshi Akaba, met India's trade minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Thursday in a bid to enhance bilateral ties. Later in the day Akaba also met separately with India's information and broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar and Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. The two countries are expected to announce plans to accelerate negotiations over Japan's bilateral carbon offset mechanism when Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Tokyo likely in August for annual talks. A deal would allow Japanese companies to install carbon-cutting technology in India and in return receive carbon credits under the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) that can be used to offset their own carbon footprint under the country's emissions target or be sold to the Japanese government. Victory in Uttarakhand by-polls is great achievement: Congress

New Delhi, July 26 (ANI): The Congress won all the three Assembly seats in Uttarakhand for which by-polls were held. The result coming against a BJP wave across the country took the ruling party's tally to 35 in the 70-member House, just one short of majority. Significantly, the result was also a vindication of the Congress central leadership's faith in chief minister Harish Rawat who was handed over the reins of the state in February. Rawat himself was among the three elected MLAs, winning from Dharchula by defeating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate BD Joshi by 20,000 votes. Uttarakhand Congress President Kishore Upadhyay said that victory in the by-polls is great achievement for the party. Jul 26, 2014
