USS Independence: World War II aircraft carrier wreck explored for the first time ever

USS Independence aircraft carrier was purposely sunk off the cost of San Francisco in 1951, and now scientists have been down to explore the haunting shell of one of WWIIs leading light aircraft carriers. The dive was part of an expedition to explore the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary and Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary by the EV Nautilus in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Naval Historical Foundation. Lockheed Martins new F-35 Lightning II fighter jet is being hailed as the worlds most advanced tactical aircraft and a new technological era for aerial warfare. Its been 15-years in the making, each cost nearly $90 million, and after being plagued with setbacks has recently been declared ready for combat. RSPCA alarmed as new badger culling trials set to go ahead

The RSPCA have said they are alarmed that the badger cull, to try and eradicate bovine TB, is to be restarted in early September after the last one was called off after it was found to be ineffective and inhumane.
