Kolkata, July 29 (ANI): CPI (M) leader Biman Bose hit out at West Bengal government over its inability to tackle Japanese Encephalitis. Almost 570 people in India have died after contracting encephalitis, commonly known as "brain fever", health authorities said on Friday, warning the death toll may rise with more people still at risk. In West Bengal, where at least 111 people have died from both strains, a senior health official said authorities were taking emergency steps to contain the outbreak. Bose attacked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying she was misleading people. The health department has set up clinics across affected areas and is trying to prevent breeding of mosquitoes by fogging, especially around pig farms, where there is a high risk of contracting the virus. Authorities in Siliguri take preventive measures to tackle Japanese encephalitis

Siliguri /Vadodara, July 24 (ANI): Health department in West Bengal took preventive measures to tackle Japanese encephalitis as 83 cases of the disease have been detected in the region. An outbreak of encephalitis syndrome is playing havoc near Siliguri district of the state. Following the increase of deaths, the district administration conducted a meeting with several departments to tackle the situation. Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) is spreading bleaching powders, conducting fogging at the piggeries and holding awareness campaigns. Sanitary Inspector from the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, Sunil Sarkar, said that they have identified the piggeries, given notice to vacant the places. Meanwhile, Gujarat also witnessed death of four children due to Chandipura virus in last 24 hours. Superintendent at Sir Sayajirao Gaikwad Hospital, Rajiv Deveshwar, said this illness is caused due to Chandipura virus which spreads through sand fly’s bite. Jul 24, 2014
