Justice A K Ganguly resigns as chairman of WBHRC

Kolkata / New Delhi, Jan 07 (ANI): Former Supreme Court judge, Justice AK Ganguly, who has been accused of sexual assault by a law intern, resigned from the West Bengal Human Rights Commission (WBHRC). Commenting on the resignation of Ganguly, Additional solicitor general, Indira Jaisingh said that the decision, in her opinion, was wise. Former Attorney General, Soli Sorabjee blamed the media of being unfair to Ganguly but said that the decision nevertheless was a wise one. Meanwhile, Congress Spokesperson Meem Afzal also lauded the decision. BJP Spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said that Ganguly should have resigned long ago as it was a necessary thing for the law to take its course. Jan 7, 2014

AK Ganguly quits NUJS, Politicos urge Ganguly to follow course of law

Kolkata/ New Delhi, Jan 04 (ANI): Political leaders on Saturday urged former Supreme Court judge AK Ganguly, accused of sexually assaulting a law intern to comply with due course of law and prove his innocence which he is vouching for. On Friday, Ganguly sent a copy of his resignation letter to the Vice-Chancellor of National University of Juridicial Sciences (NUJS), after some members of the college faculty expressed their reservation about his continuation. Goa, Dec 23 (ANI): A local Panaji court on Monday extended the judicial custody of former Tehelka editor-in-chief, Tarun Tejpal, for another 12 days. Tejpal has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman journalist and his initial judicial custody ended on December 22. The police had arrested Tejpal in Goa on November 30, after his interim bail was rejected by a Sessions court. Tejpal reached Goa from New Delhi on November 29, after he was summoned by police. Ahmedabad, Dec 23 (ANI): The police arrested self-styled godman Asaram's daughter Bharti and wife Lakshmi in the case of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in his hermitage. The two had conceded that they supplied girls to Asaram. However, they were later released on bail. During the interrogation, Bharti and Lakshmi admitted that the girls were sent to Asaram on the pretext of 'Gurudiksha'. The 75-year-old Asaram was arrested in August and has remained in prison since then. Surat, Dec 19 (ANI): Self-styled godman Asaram's son Narayan Sai was on Thursday remanded in 14-day judicial custody by a local Surat court in a rape case filed against him. Two Surat-based sisters had accused Sai and his father Asaram of rape.
