Omar Abdullah visits relief camps set up for ceasefire violation victims

Hiranagar, Oct 9 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday visited the relief camps set up for ceasefire violation victims. Thousands took refuge in relief camps in the disputed region of Kashmir after some of the most intense fighting between nuclear-armed neighbours Pakistan and India in a decade. A total of eight Indian civilians have been killed since the firings started more than a week ago in the mostly Muslim Himalayan region. While exchanges of sporadic fire are common along the de facto border dividing the region, the number of civilian deaths is unusual. Oct 9, 2014

Akhnoor/ Flora/ New Delhi, Oct 07 (ANI): Indian and Pakistani forces exchanged fire in the disputed Kashmir region on Tuesday and four Indian civilians were wounded, a day after the highest civilian death toll in a single day from their cross-border conflict in more than a decade. Director General of paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF), DK Pathak said that Pakistan forces fired at 40 Indian army posts early on Tuesday. The two sides have been trading fire and counter-accusations since the violence erupted last week. Meanwhile, people living along the de-facto border were living in fear due to continuous firing. Pakistan's foreign ministry said it had lodged a protest with Indian diplomats over the killings of its civilians. The ministry said the firing was "in complete disregard" of the Muslim Eid al-Adha festival being celebrated on Monday. Oct 7, 2014
