UK defence secy unveils plaques in memory of six Indian soldiers for bravery in World War I

New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): British Defence Secretary Michael Fallon in New Delhi unveiled plaques in memory of six Indian soldiers, who won Victoria Cross for their bravery during the World War I. Earlier, Fallon said his country would never forget enormous service rendered by Indian heroes while commemorating their contribution in the World War I under the United Kingdom's flag. India's Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said these plaques will be sent to hometowns of the soldiers. This year marks the centenary of World War I, which was fought between 1914 and 1918. The UK has funded a battlefield guide book that will be available for those families, who wish to visit France and Flanders battlefields. It has also sponsored table book giving a pictorial overview of India and the Great War, a part from it, digitising the war diaries of the Indian fighters. Oct 31, 2014

Earlier, Fallon, who is on a day-long visit, paid homage to over a million Indian soldiers who fought World War I and laid a wreath at the war memorial at India Gate in New Delhi. The British Defence Secretary indirectly sought India's assistance to tackle ISIS. This year marks the centenary of World War I, which was fought between 1914 and 1918.
