Mumbai 'Dabbawalas' join PM's 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'

New Delhi/ Chennai/ Mumbai/ Varanasi, Dec 26 (ANI): The lunch box delivery men of Mumbai or 'dabbawalas' as they are called, hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for nominating them to join Clean Indian Mission. The dabbawalas are city's lifeline as the team of around 5000 people supply food to around 200,000 office goers every day. They carry hot food in lunch boxes from the houses of Mumbai residents late in the morning and deliver them at their workplace. The dabbawalas said they are honoured with the nomination and would do their best to ensure cleanliness around. Varanasi, Dec 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi takes part in Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan during the visit to his parliamentary constituency as part of Good Governance Day celebrations across nation. During his one day visit to Varanasi, Modi wielded broom at the Assi Ghat and outside near Jagannath temple in the holy city. Modi today also lauded people for helping rid the Assi Ghat of mounds of soil and garbage to restore the historical site to its old glory. Prime Minister Modi took to twitter for extending his wishes. "Tributes to Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya on his birth anniversary. A man ahead of his time, he devoted himself to nationalism and education," tweeted Prime Minister Modi. Respectfully addressed as 'Mahamana', he was an educationist and politician notable for his role in the independence movement and his espousal of Hindu nationalism. Malaviya is most remembered as the founder of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) at Varanasi in 1916, the largest residential university in Asia and one of the largest in the world. He also served as the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University from 1919-1938. Malaviya had held the position of President of the Indian National Congress on four occasions, 1909, 1913, 1919 and 1932. He left congress in 1934. PM Modi to visit Varanasi today for 'Good Governance Day'

New Delhi, Dec 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting his Parliamentary constituency Varanasi on Thursday to observe ' Good Governance Day ' on the birthday of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The Prime Minister will also be visiting Banaras Hindu University to garland the statue of Bharat Ratna winner, educationist, great social worker and freedom fighter Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya on his birth anniversary and then will drive to Assi Ghat to inspect cleanliness programme started by him during his previous visit to Varanasi. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the visit.
