WHO declares Ebola outbreak an international health emergency

Nigeria/ Johannesburg, Aug 09 (ANI): The World Health Organization said that the world's worst outbreak of Ebola that has killed nearly 1,000 people in West Africa represents an international health emergency and could continue spreading for months. Nigeria became the third African nation, after Sierra Leone and Liberia, to declare a national emergency as the region's healthcare systems struggle to cope with the advance of the disease. Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan's spokesman Reuben Abati outlined the plan to help battle the deadly Ebola virus, after Jonathan declared a national state of emergency, and approved 1.9 billion naira of emergency funds to contain it. Jaswant Singh very critical after head injury, put on life support system

New Delhi, Aug 08 (ANI): Former Defence Minister Jaswant Singh has been put on life support system at the Army Research and Referral Hospital, where he was admitted after reportedly slipping at home and grievously injuring his head. A Defence Ministry statement said that, "At present the condition is very critical. He is on life support systems and under constant monitoring by a team of neurosurgeons and critical care providers." Examination at the hospital showed him to be in coma, with signs of 'raised intracranial tension and a haematoma scalp'. Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh arrived at the hospital to enquire about the former BJP leader’s health. Other BJP leaders like Shahnawaz Hussain and Rajiv Pratap Rudy also visited the hospital to inquire about Singh. Aug 8, 2014
