2G scam: SC says charges against CBI chief serious, seeks reply

New Delhi, Sept 08 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday said the allegations against CBI chief Ranjit Sinha in the 2G and coal allocation cases are serious and asked him to respond to them. Referring to the charges raised by activist and lawyer Prashant Bhushan that many of the main accused in the two high profile cases were frequent visitors at the CBI chief's residence, the court asked him to file a counter-affidavit within a week. Maoists open fire on police patrol in Jharkhand

Latehar, Sep 08 (ANI): Maoists opened fire on a police patrol party in Jharkhand but nobody was injured, said a police officer. Acting on a tip-off, police laid a cordon to nab the militants but they managed to escape by taking cover of fire. Police officer, Deepak Kumar said Maoists had suffered losses during exchange of fire. Police recovered bullets and other materials from the spot. Police destroy three Maoist camps, recover cache of arms in Odisha

Odisha, Sep 05 (ANI): Following an exchange of fire, police destroyed three camps and recovered a cache of arms and other items during clashes with Maoists in the red corridor of Odisha. The Koraput and Malkangiri police initiated a joint operation and raided the forest area near Majhiguda village where the camps were operated by a Maoist organisation. Inspector General of Police, Yashwant Jethwa, said on Friday that the raid was a success. No loss of life has been reported although it is believed that some Maoists might have sustained injuries during the encounter. Jethwa also added that the camps were used as a connecting link with Maoists of other states. The Maoists managed to escape after the gun battle. Indian intelligence agencies should take steps to counter Al Qaeda move: Security Expert

New Delhi, Sep 04 (ANI): Security Expert Alok Bansal on Thursday called for strict action by intelligence agencies in the wake of a video released by Al Qaeda. In a 55-minute video posted online, Al Qaeda leader Ayman al Zawahri, also renewed a longstanding vow of loyalty to Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Omar, in an apparent snub to the Islamic State armed group challenging al Qaeda for leadership of transnational Islamist militancy. Zawahri described the formation of "Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent" as a glad tidings for Muslims "in Burma, Bangladesh, Assam, Gujarat, Ahmedabad, and Kashmir" and said the new wing would rescue Muslims there from injustice and oppression.
