Three arrested on suspicion of modern day slavery in West Midlands

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of working a group of Polish nationals like slaves and paying them just £1 an hour at recycling plants in Sandwell. West Midlands Police officers raided CAP Recycling in Elwell Street, West Bromwich, and sister firm Black Country Recycling in Union Road, Oldbury, on Tuesday morning (27 Sept) as part of a modern day slavery investigation. Francios Hollande: Determined to see British authorities play their part in Calais Jungle crisis

French President Francois Hollande has promised to close the Jungle refugee camp in Calais during a visit to the town today, 26 September 2016. It is home to at least 7,000 migrants who have been stopped at the border trying to cross into Britain. Some 80 per cent of the migrants living in the camp are eligible to claim asylum in France, but Hollande made it clear that he believes the United Kingdom should be a part of the removal process, despite the EU referendum vote. Charlotte police releases video footage of Keith Lamont Scott shooting

Charlotte police released two videos of the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old black man, whose death on 20 September led to riots and protests in North Carolina. The footage was recorded by a police body camera and a vehicle dashcam.The Charlotte police department had previously refused to release the footage until the investigation into the incident was complete. Scott’s death sparked riots in the North Carolina town. The protests against police violence are still ongoing. Sep 25, 2016

Midnight curfew in Charlotte after three nights of rioting

The city of Charlotte, North Carolina, imposed a midnight curfew on 22 September 2016 after three nights of riots triggered by the police shooting of a black man. Keith Scott was shot dead by a black officer as police searched for a different man with an outstanding warrant. Police claim Scott was carrying a gun when he approached officers, something Scotts family deny. Sep 23, 2016
