BCCI sidelines Fletcher, appoints Shastri as Director for England-India ODI series

New Delhi, Aug 19 (ANI): Following India's 3-1 Test series loss to England, the BCCI cracked the whip on Tuesday by sidelining team coach Duncan Fletcher and asking the bowling and fielding coaches to go on leave. It asked former Test cricketer and now commentator Ravi Shastri to assume charge of the team as director for the five match ODI series. The five-match ODI series against England will get underway in Bristol from August 25. The BCCI has relieved bowling coach Joe Dawes and fielding coach Trevor Penney off their duties for the one-day series and appointed Sanjay Bangar, former Indian all-rounder, and former India fast bowler Bharat Arun as assistant coaches of the team. Hockey players hail prospects of conferring Bharat Ratna to hockey wizard Dhyan Chand

Bhopal/ Ludhiana/ New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): India's former hockey players have hailed prospects of conferring the country's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna to the sports wizard Major Dhyan Chand. However, the government so far has not issued any official statement in this regard. Former Olympian Aslam Sher Khan, whose father was also a hockey player and team mate of Dhyan Chand in Berlin Olympics in 1936, said the hockey wizard should be the first choice among sportspersons for the highest civilian honour. Phoolan Devi murder case: Decision to be pronounced on August 14

New Delhi, Aug 12 (ANI): The decision on Phoolan Devi murder case will be pronounced on August 14. A court on Tuesday reserved its order on the quantum of sentence against main accused Sher Singh Rana, convicted for killing bandit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi. Delhi Police has demanded death penalty for Rana. Additional Sessions Judge Bharat Parashar fixed Aug 14 for delivering the order on the quantum of sentence against Rana. On Aug 8, the court convicted Rana, who gunned down Phoolan Devi, to avenge the 1981 Behmai massacre in which she killed 17 people of the higher caste Thakur community. Aug 12, 2014
