Human Rights situation grim in Balochistan: HRCP

Quetta/ Geneva, Oct 20: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating human rights situation in Balochistan. Religious extremism, enforced disappearances, target killings and migration of minorities were some of the issues raised by the Commission at a press meet in Quetta. HRCP Chairperson Zohra Yusuf also expressed dismay over the shabby education and health facilities and poor economic conditions in the province resulting in misleading the Baloch youth. Targeted killings are regularly being reported from Balochistan, where incidents of enforced disappearances and dumping of mutilated bodies also continue. Traditional Buffalo fight thrills scores of spectators in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, Oct 15 (ANI): Scores of spectators thronged to witness the thrilling one-day buffalo fighting festival organised as part of local tradition and religious belief in Himachal Pradesh. The buffalo fight organised in Poabo village nearly 10 kilometers from Shimla saw villagers coming from more than 15 villages who brought their buffalos to participate in the match. The century-old buffalo fight is performed annually and involves the specially reared animals being brought to the ring, following which they are provoked for the duel. Organiser Rameshwar Thakur believed that it is a rich heritage which they want to preserve for future generations. The tradition is also to pacify the god Saturn and villagers believe that an opportunity to watch and participate in this fighting is a way to please Saturn which would bring happiness and prosperity. Bihar Madarsa bans admission for girls

Nalanda, Oct 15 (ANI): An Islamic religious school - madarsa - in Bihar has banned admission for girls as there is no separate sitting arrangement for them in the campus. Madarsa Azizia in Bihar Sharif, district headquarters of Nalanda district, has issued a diktat that girls will not be enrolled and those already enrolled will not be allowed into the premises. He further added the decision has been taken in the wake of social evils prevailing in the society. Madarsa Azizia is run by Soghra Wakf Estate Committee. It is one of the hundreds of Madarsas affiliated by the state government and its students get free bicycles, uniforms, books and other schemes. Oct 15, 2014

Agartala/ Bodh Gaya, Oct 13 (ANI): Scores of Buddhists congregated in the historical monastery of Tripura recently to participate in the 38th 'Kathin Chibor Dan,' one of the main religious festivals of their community. 'Kathin Chibor Dan' means 'Offering of Difficult Monk Robe', an annual colourful festival. The festival is celebrated throughout the world within one month of the conclusion of 'Prabarana Purnima'. The robe that the Buddhist monks wear is known as 'Chibar' and it is believed that the donation of robes to monks is the highest sacrifice, according to Buddhism, and the occasion marks the most significant religious festival of Buddhists. He also added that this festival spreads an important message of sacrifice. Meerut, Oct 13 (ANI): In the recent development of Meerut's 'love jihad' case, the 22-year-old girl took a U-turn and denied allegations of gang rape and forceful conversion of religion. The victim said that she ran away with the Muslim boy on her free will. In a written statement, the girl complained to the police of threats of being killed from her own family. Earlier, the girl had alleged she was gang raped and was forcefully converted to Islam. The victim's family said that the boy has threatened the victim and pressurized her to give such a statement.
