Anti-government protests spread across nation after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf worker killing

Karachi/Lahore/Islamabad, Dec 09 (ANI): Protests by Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party widened across the country after activists from his party was gunned down in clashes with the ruling party's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) during a shutdown strike in Faisalabad city. The killing sparked protests in other cities of the country including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. The protesters also took to streets in Mutan, Gujrat, Guranwala, Sialkot, Peshawar and Hyderabad. The protesters in Karachi held banner that read "We condemn in strongest words the atrocities committed in Faisalabad". The demonstrator shouted "Go Nawaz Go" and "Go Shahabaz go". Earlier in the day as the news of PTI worker's killing spread, Imran Khan reacted to it in Islamabad before leaving for Faisalabad where he was due to address a rally. Dec 9, 2014

Hindus and Muslims come together for community wedding ceremony in Rajkot

Rajkot, Dec 08 (ANI): Hindus and Muslims performed community weddings under common roof upholding the saga of communal harmony. At least, 101 Hindu and Muslim couples got married at a common event in Rajkot city in Gujarat. The couples mostly belonged to economically middle and poor classes. The Hindu Brahmins and Muslim priests conducted the respective rituals in front of hundreds of invitees. A Muslim priest Sayeed Mohammad Hussain Ali said this mass wedding will spread the message of love and brotherhood among both the communities across the country. Legislator of Rajkot city, Indranil Rajguru, who organised the mass wedding said no matter what happens across the nation, Hindus and Muslims always stay together peacefully in the city. Indian Army recovers arms used in Handwara encounter in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 7 (ANI): Indian Army on Sunday recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition used by militants during the latest encounter in Handwara town of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the reports, these arms and ammunitions were used in the gunfight between the Army and the militants during the second phase of assembly polls in Handwara on Tuesday. Also recovered were arms used during a gun battle in Uri sector, near the heavily militarized border with Pakistan, on Friday when militants sneaked into an Indian military camp killing 11 soldiers and police officials. Violence has escalated in Kashmir as India holds an election to the state assembly that separatists have shunned and instead urged talks with Pakistan to resolve the 67-year-old row over the Muslim-majority region. Muslims demand reconstruction of Mosque on Babri demolition anniversary

Ayodhya/Chennai, Dec 6 (ANI): Muslims on Saturday protested in demand for the reconstruction of the Babri Masjid on the 22nd anniversary of the mosque demolition, an incident that had triggered communal riots in the country. The 1992 demolition of the 16th century mosque in Ayodhya by Hindu mobs had triggered worst riots in which about 2,000 people were killed. Many Hindu organisations, especially Vishwa Hindu Parishad, observe it as a day of victory while Muslim organisations call it a black day. A protester, Maulana Jameer, demanded that the government should rebuild the demolished mosque. Meanwhile in Chennai, a non government Muslim organization, Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) staged a protest with thousands of Muslims participating in it. Dec 6, 2014

Residents await justice ahead of 22nd anniversary of Babri mosque demolition in Ayodhya

Ayodhya, Dec 05 (ANI): Residents of the Ayodhya city of Uttar Pradesh await justice ahead of the 22nd anniversary of the demolition of the Babri mosque which triggered massive communal riots causing immense loss of life and property in the ensuing violence. On Wednesday (December 03), a litigator, Mohammad Hashim Ansari, who had filed a petition in the case more than 60 years ago, withdrew it. As per media sources, Ansari said the deity concerned (Lord Rama) is placed in makeshift camps, whereas those playing politics are living in bungalows. Ansari on Thursday said that he did not expect the government to take any decision in favour of his community. Meanwhile, a Hindu priest, Nirmohiya said that temples in Lord Ram's reported birthplace were left derelict, without holy offerings and devotional prayers. Aurangabad, Dec 4 (ANI): A three-day exhibition _The Quran and Modern Science_ is being hosted by the Islamic Research Centre (IRC) in Maharashtra. The exhibition aims at making the youth aware of scientific facts stated in the holy book of Quran. President of IRC Advocate Faiz Syed said the motive is to clear the misconceptions of non Muslims regarding the Muslim community. Several illustrated posters quoted verses from the Quran and linked them with discoveries in modern science. A student, Alfia, said the exhibition made them aware how science and Quran are related.
