Sri Lankan PM offers prayers at Tirupati temple

Tirumala, Nov 08 (ANI): Sri Lankan Prime Minister DM Jayaratne offered prayers at the famed Tirupati temple of Lord Venkateswara in hill town of Tirumala, near pilgrimage city of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. The temple is deeply revered by Hindus and is one of the most venerated pilgrimage centres in India. This was Jayaratne’s second visit to the temple. He had earlier offered prayers in 1994. Jayaratne said he was told by Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to visit the temple when in India. He was blessed by temple priests as they chanted religious verses. Nov 8, 2014

Many young archers were seen performing the art during the fair and urged more and more youth to preserve this heritage. On the beats of traditional drums, people aim at each other with bow and arrow on legs. One of the organisers, Pawan Thakur, said that young generation should now come forward and develop such ancient art. This fair is a blend of religious belief and love for century-old 'Thoda' sport. Varanasi/Allahabad/Hapur/Ayodhya, Nov 6 (ANI): Thousands of devotees converged at holy River Ganges in Uttar Pradesh to take a holy dip on the occasion of ‘Kartik Purnima’ on Thursday. Devout Hindus thronged river bank in Allahabad to perform rituals at the confluence of three holy rivers-- Ganges, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati. In Varanasi also, devotees marked the occasion with religious pageantry. Another devotee, Sushma, said earthen oil lamps are floated in the river and prayers are offered to the almighty.
