Shakti Mill gangrape case: JJB convicts two minors, sends them to correction homes

Mumbai, July 16 (ANI): The juvenile justice board (JJB) convicted two minors for the gang rape of a photojournalist and a telephone operator in Mumbai and sent them to a reform centre for three years. Both the gang rapes took place inside Shakti Mills compound which is abandoned textile mill. Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, confirmed the judgment of the Juvenile Justice Board in Mumbai. Three other accused, Vijay Jadhav, Kasim Bengali and Mohammed Salim Ansari, were sentenced to death on April 04 this year for the two gang-rapes in Mumbai. Jul 16, 2014

SC wants govt to revisit juvenile law, politicos react

New Delhi, July 15 (ANI): After Union women and child development minister Maneka Gandhi, it is the Supreme Court that has called for a more stringent Juvenile Justice Act. Questioning the immunity enjoyed by the under-age offenders, SC has asked the government to re-visit the law and make necessary changes. Reacting over this, SP leader Naresh Agarwal said that before changing the law there should be wider consultations on the issue. However, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy welcomed the suggestion. Delhi Gangrape case: SC stays death sentence of two convicts

New Delhi, July 14 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the death sentence of two convicts in the Delhi gangrape and murder case. Reactions flow in after Maneka Gandhi says minor rape-accused should be treated on par with adults

New Delhi, July 14 (ANI): Mixed reactions flow in as Minister for women and child development Maneka Gandhi said that minors accused of rape should be treated on par with adults. NCP leader Majid Memon and SP leader Naresh Agarwal said that juvenile act should not be scrapped just like that. While, BSP Chief Mayawati said that the matter has to be discussed before taking any decision on the same. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and DCW Chairperson Barkha Shukla applauded Gandhi and said that in Nirbhaya case too, the juvenile was the cruelest and so the change in the act would be a welcome step.
