Indian cinema beyond the confines of Hindi language: Amitabh Bachchan as IFFI kicks off in Goa

Panaji, Nov 21 (ANI): Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan endorsed the pan-Indian identity portrayed in cinema at the 11-day International Film Festival of India (IFFI) that kicked-off in the beach state of Goa. The event was inaugurated at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium in Bambolim and offers a wide variety of 110 films including 28 Oscar entries. Speaking at the event, Bachchan, also the guest of honour, said Goa had a special place in his life as he went down the memory lane recalling his first film, 'Saat Hindustani', portraying struggle of seven Indians to liberate Goa from the Portuguese colonial rule. Meanwhile, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said cinema enlightens people many fold compared to the regular educational institutions. 45th International Film Festival of India kicks-off in Goa

Goa, Nov 20 (ANI): Movie buffs would get a taste of Indian as well as foreign films as 11-day International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is going to kick-off from Thursday (November 20) in Goa. The event will be inaugurated at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium in Bambolim and offer a wide variety of 110 films and 28 Oscar entries. The chief guest of the 45th edition of IFFI will be Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan. The event will also pay tribute to British filmmaker Richard Attenborough, who died in August this year. Special homage will also be paid to Bollywood actors including Zohra Sehgal, Suchitra Sen and Farooq Sheikh. Northeast region will be a special focus and nine northeast films will be showcased at the festival. The opening film at the festival will be 'The President' directed by Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf. Nov 20, 2014

Congress releases manifesto for polls in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Nov 19 (ANI): Congress released its manifesto for the upcoming Assembly Elections in Jharkhand on Wednesday. The five-phased state assembly polls in Jharkhand will begin from November 25 and end on December 20. The results would be announced on December 23. Congress unit of Jharkhand Chairman Subodh Kant Sahay addressed the media persons in Ranchi after releasing the manifesto. Sahay said if Congress is voted to power, loans of farmers will be waived off. Sahay further said medical insurance worth Rs 30,000 will be offered to people at nominal costs.
