SeaWorld to end orca whale breeding programme

Bowing to years of pressure from animal rights activists, US theme park operator SeaWorld said on 17 March it would stop breeding orca whales and that those currently at its parks would be the last. Orlando-based SeaWorld has faced sagging attendance along with criticism about its treatment of the captive marine mammals, and some activists had called for the end of public exhibition of orcas altogether. Denmark tops the world’s happiest countries list

Denmark overtook Switzerland as the happiest place, according to a report on 16 March, and urged nations regardless of wealth to tackle inequality, protect the environment and keep their countrys social fabric from tearing apart. The 65-page report, prepared by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the Earth Institute at Columbia University, showed that Syria, Afghanistan and eight sub-Saharan countries were rated the 10 least happy places on earth to live.
