Bhopal, Feb 12 (ANI): Congress party on Thursday staged a protest outside state Health Minister Narottam Mishra's residence over the spate in swine flu deaths in Madhya Pradesh. Almost 44 people have died in the state due to swine flu and 66 others have been tested positive for the deadly virus. Workers of the Congress party demanded Mishra's resignation, criticizing him for not taking control of the situation. The virus has killed 191 people in the country in January alone, with Telangana state being the worst hit. So far, 2,038 people have been afflicted by the virus in India. Swine flu is caused by H1N1 virus. H1N1 symptoms are similar to those produced by other influenza viruses - fever, cough, sore throat, body aches and respiratory problems. Feb 12, 2015

Authorities step up measures to combat swine flu in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, Feb 12 (ANI): Authorities in Gujarat stepped up measures to combat the fatal H1N1 virus as swine flu cases rose across the state. In Ahmedabad, arrangements for separate wards, beds, adequate medical supplies, including Tamiflu medicines, have been made in hospitals. People are being educated on preventive measures and have been instructed to wear masks, wash their hands frequently, besides sanitizing the environment. Superintendent of a government hospital, M Prabhakar said that 84 new swine flu cases were reported and 240 cases had been treated till now. Siliguri, Feb 07 (ANI): HIV positive children and adults took part in a sports and cultural event in West Bengal on Saturday to spread awareness about the virus. A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO)--West-Bengal Voluntary Health Organisation (WBVHO)--organised the meet, which was attended by people from all walks of life. During the meet, children participated in various events like frog race, biscuit eating competition, etc, while parents took part in musical chairs, passing the ball, etc. About 80 families from different parts of the state took part in this event. The NGO works for creating awareness among people about HIV to change the thinking of the society. Meanwhile, a participant Dhan Kumar Rai said that such events boost morale and bring happiness. Udaipur, Feb 03 (ANI): Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria tested positive for swine flu and is recuperating in his residence. On Sunday evening, Gulab Chand Kataria complained of cold, cough, bad throat, fever. The next day he was tested for the H1N1 virus and by evening it was known that the test report was positive.
