Gandhinagar, Jan 08 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 13th edition of'Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas' in Gandhinagar on Thursday. About 4000 NRIs from 58 countries are in the city to attend the annual fest that brings together members of the Indian diaspora to engage and discuss investing in India. Earlier he launched the 'Dandi Kutir', a unique exhibition depicting various stages of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi's life and work. Gandhinagar, Jan 07 (ANI): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj inaugurated the Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Gandhinagar on Wednesday by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Swaraj while speaking at the event invited the 'young pravasis' to come and contribute to India's growth. Swaraj also talked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's policies of 'Make in India', 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' among others. She also applauded Indian economy 'showing new dynamism under the new government'. More than 4,000 delegates have arrived for the 13th PBD, the world's largest annual gathering of people of Indian origin, aimed at enhancing networking and reinforcing commercial linkages. Congress to move SC against education qualification in Rajasthan panchayat polls

New Delhi, Jan 05 (ANI): The Congress is all set to file a petition in the Supreme Court on Monday against an ordinance brought by the Rajasthan government setting a minimum education qualification for candidates contesting panchayat polls. The ordinance stipulates a minimum education qualification of secondary education (Class X) for candidates contesting zila parishad or panchayat samiti polls and Class VIII pass to be eligible to run for the post of sarpanch. Party leader AM Singhvi and Pradesh Congress Committee president Sachin Pilot claimed that the ordinance is discriminatory and against the constitutional right to equality and highly disruptive for all candidates and political parties. Madhu Kinnar becomes first eunuch to win mayor poll

Chhattisgarh, Jan 5 (ANI): A eunuch, who earned a living by singing in Howrah-Mumbai trains scripted history by winning civic polls in Chhattisgarh, defeating nearest rival from ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Independent candidate Madhu won the mayor election of the Raigarh Municipal Corporation by 4,537 votes against BJP's Mahaveer Guruji. Madhu, 35, belonging to Dalit community, is the first transgender person to get elected as mayor in the state. After winning, Madhu said people had shown faith in her and she will put best efforts to accomplish their dreams. Hundreds of thousands of transgenders in India face discrimination, abuse and often forced into prostitution. Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh wished the winning candidates.
