Manufacturing affordable drugs does not mean spurious: Gulam Nabi tells US FDA Chief

New Delhi, Feb 11 (ANI): Union Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad told US FDA Chief, Margaret Hamburg that Indian drugs should not be treated as spurious just because they are affordable, after the two countries signed a Statement of Intent on Cooperation working to keep off sub-standard pharma exports from entering the United States. Underlining New Delhi’s commitment to stringent regulatory mechanism, Azad said it has taken measures for capacity building, strengthening laboratories and more transparency that would turn out favourable for both India and US. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 9.75 points down to stand at 6053.45.Muthoot Finance and Apollo Tyres were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 4.74% and 3.82% along with Wockhardt Ltd. and DLF Ltd. with an increase of 3.62% and 2.94% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include Idea Cellular Ltd. and Reliance Communications Ltd with a decrease of 8.54% and 4.03% along with Godrej Industries Ltd and Aurobindo Pharma with a decrease of 3.91% and 3.85% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 13.41 points at 11,804.69 while the banking sector is down 59.61 points at 11,683.77 and the realty sector is up 26.85 points at 1,232.20.The Indian currency is down 0.14% at Rs 62.37 per dollar.
