JandK village council leaders hail Rahul Gandhi for 73rd amendment

New Delhi, Feb 18 (ANI): Around 50 village council leaders from Jammu and Kashmir met Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi at his residence in New Delhi and hailed him for getting 73rd amendment of the Constitution approved by the cabinet in the Kashmir valley. The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference, Shafiq Mir said their struggle for getting the amendment approved has been possible only with the help of Gandhi. Reportedly, the 73rd amendment of the Constitution empowers the Panchayati Raj (village councils), a demand that has been pressed upon by Congress party and Gandhi himself. However, Mir took a dig at Narendra Modi and said he will not succeed in the province.

Srinagar, Feb 10 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir faced a three day curfew and complete shutdown, to mark the first death anniversaries of Parliament attack convict Muhammad Afzal Guru, who was hanged in Tihar Jail. The shutdown entered its second day on Monday with residents facing troubles in going to their respective offices as the streets wore a deserted look and shops were locked as well. Security personnel were seen manning the streets and keep a tight vigil to foil any attempt of protest in the valley. All mobile internet connections have been blocked except BSNL broadband.

Poonch, Feb 08 (ANI): Kashmir woke up to fresh swathe of white flakes jamming daily life, commuters faced long and treacherous rides as snow-filled roads caused delays in public transit. Road authorities have started mechanical snow-clearing service, but incessant snowfall makes the roads slippery and unfavourable for travel. This is the third time within this week that snowfall has brought normal life to a stand still, leading to prolonged power cuts and even blocking of the arterial highway. Frequent blocking of the National-Highway, which is the arterial road link that connects Kashmir with rest of the country, due to non-stop snowfall makes life tough as essential supplies do not reach the valley on time.
