Special forces clear anti-G20 protests in Hamburg

Special forces were deployed in Hamburg to control protests against the G20 summit. For the second day in a row, anti-capitalist protesters caused chaos in the north German city torching vehicles, looting supermarkets, building barricades and attacking police. Special forces stormed the Schanzenviertel district around midnight and chased members of the radical Black Bloc trying to escape across scaffolding. Around 200 police officers were injured during the two-day clashes. The G20 summit concludes on Saturday, allowing Hamburg to clear up the chaos. Jul 8, 2017

Nearly 100 PETA and Anima Naturalis supporters gathered in the centre of Pamplona on July 5 ahead of the Running of the Bulls at the San Fermín festival which takes place from July 6-14. To highlight the cruelty of the event the chanting protesters simultaneously broke banderillas containing red powdered paint above their heads, covering themselves and filling the air around them with blood. PETA says that prior to the Running of the Bulls event, the bulls are purposely angered and tormented with electric prods and sharp sticks before they endure a slow and painful death in the events. Animals should be respected and protected, not chased by a crowd into an arena to be tormented, speared, and stabbed, says PETA Director Elisa Allen. Bullfighting has no place in a civilised society. PETA is calling on kind people around the world to reject this bloody spectacle, and wee urging Pamplona to join the more than 100 Spanish cities and towns that have banned it. Jul 5, 2017
