Indian space mission not a medium of showing one-upmanship: K Radhakrishnan

Mangalore, Feb 20 (ANI): Indian space mission was not a medium of showcasing one-upmanship over competitors but it ensured that the tangible benefits were felt by the common man, said its former chief K Radhakrishnan. Radhakrishnan said only nine of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) funds were utilized for projects like Mars Orbiter Mission, while the rest were put to use for development of schemes for the common man. The Mars Orbiter Mission, or MOM, cost $74 million, a fraction of the $671 million the US space agency NASA spent on its newly arrived MAVEN Mars mission. Two-thirds of MOM's parts were made by Indian companies such as Larsen and Toubro (LART.NS) and Godrej and Boyce. Feb 20, 2015
