Madhu Kinnar becomes first eunuch to win mayor poll

Chhattisgarh, Jan 5 (ANI): A eunuch, who earned a living by singing in Howrah-Mumbai trains scripted history by winning civic polls in Chhattisgarh, defeating nearest rival from ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Independent candidate Madhu won the mayor election of the Raigarh Municipal Corporation by 4,537 votes against BJP's Mahaveer Guruji. Madhu, 35, belonging to Dalit community, is the first transgender person to get elected as mayor in the state. After winning, Madhu said people had shown faith in her and she will put best efforts to accomplish their dreams. Hundreds of thousands of transgenders in India face discrimination, abuse and often forced into prostitution. Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh wished the winning candidates. Amit Shah to meet party leaders in J-K over govt. formation

New Delhi, Jan 5 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah will be meeting Jammu and Kashmir party leaders on Monday to discuss government formation in the state. According to reports, BJP general secretary Ram Madhav will meet the members one on one and take their feedback. Earlier, the BJP had stated that any attempt to form a government in the Jammu and Kashmir without its inclusion would be a travesty of the mandate given by the people of the state. The J-K elections threw up a hung verdict, with the PDP emerging as the single-largest party in with 28 seats. AAP, BJP workers clash at Tughlakabad, five injured

New Delhi, Jan 04 (ANI): Five people were injured after members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) clashed in Tughlakabad area following an aggressive debate in a TV news channel. Workers of both the parties pushed each other, pelted stones and abused each other using derogatory remarks. A car was set ablaze following the feud giving an ugly turn to the incident. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Meenakshi Lekhi said that the clash was a result of AAP's frustration. Meanwhile, AAP leader Ashutosh said that it is in BJP's nature to spread violence. Suspense continues over government formation in J-K, BJP asserts importance

New Delhi, Jan 2 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party once again said on Friday that no stable government would be possible in Jammu and Kashmir without the party's participation, even as the suspense over government formation in the state continues. Two days ago, People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the largest party, had also met the Governor. After the meeting, Mehbooba Mufti appeared to lean towards the BJP as she invoked former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's vision and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi "has a big responsibility" towards the state. In the five-phased recent state assembly polls, the PDP won 28 seats in the 87-member Jammu and Kashmir assembly; the BJP won 25, while the National Conference and the Congress won 15 and 12 seats respectively. Over 100 people reconverted to Sikhism in Amritsar

Amritsar/ New Delhi, Dec 31 (ANI): Around 120 people from 15 families were re-converted to Sikhism from Christianity in a 'ghar wapsi' (homecoming) event in Amritsar city of Punjab. Lately, there have been a lot of cases of religious conversions - mainly to Hinduism - in the country and politicians have slammed ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for not taking any action against it. The families stated they originally belonged to Mazhabi Sikh community and were lured into Christianity. Reportedly, the conversion function was organised by Dharma Jagran Manch, a body associated with Hindu nationalist organisation Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), after people expressed desire to return to Sikh faith.
