India celebrates National Press Day, IandB Ministry says nation believes in freedom of press

New Delhi, Nov 16 (ANI): Addressing a gathering to celebrate National Press Day in New Delhi on Sunday, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Rajyavardhan Rathore said that the government believes in freedom of press for the fourth pillar of democracy. A book related to the media was also released at the event by the dignitaries. This year, the National Press Day celebration has been dedicated to the 'Role of Media in Facilitating Transparency in Public Affairs.' Various seminars, symposia, workshops, debates and discussions on topics related to the Press were organised to mark the day. Addressing the gathering, the Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said that media should act with responsibility and not turn into paparazzi. Various journalists, photographers and freelancers excelling in print media were also honoured by the Council which is the only authority enjoying the statutory mandate to encourage the media to pursue its duties. New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to Acharya Jivatram Bhagwandas Kripalani as well as freedom fighter Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on their birth anniversary. Modi tweeted, "Scholar, freedom fighter and a man who devoted his life towards nation building, I salute Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on his birth anniversary". Azad was one of the tallest national leaders of his time and promoted the cause of Hindu Muslim unity as well as secularism and socialism. His contribution to laying the foundation of education in independent India is recognised by celebrating his birthday as "National Education Day" across India.
