Fiscal deficit will be contained at 4.8 % of GDP: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Jan 16 (ANI): India's fiscal deficit will be contained at 4.8 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the current fiscal year ending March, said finance minister, P Chidambaram, hinting at possible cuts in government spending. The finance minister expressed his "unflinching commitment" to contain the fiscal deficit, at a time when the deficit in the first eight months of the fiscal year has touched 93.9 percent of the full-year target. PM expects 5 % economic growth in 2013/14

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday said that India's economic growth in the current fiscal year is likely to remain flat at 5 percent. Singh's forecast is more optimistic than those of several private economists, who are predicting growth in the year till March 2014 to slip below 5 percent.
