Passengers miffed as Pakistan restricts run of bus service at Wagah border

Wagah, Jan 10 (ANI): The decision of Pakistan to restrict the run of a bus service at Wagah border following an intelligence alert that militants may target the bus has angered passengers. Passengers travelling from Pakistan said they were severely inconvenienced as it involves more time. Early this week, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation decided to restrict the entry of buses running under the Pakistan-India friendship service from Lahore to Delhi till Wagah border due to militant threats. Earlier, the bus used to travel from New Delhi to Pakistan's Lahore city. A passenger from Pakistan's Faislabad, Rashid Hanif was visibly upset. Jan 10, 2015

NDMC to distribute LED bulbs to its employees on Holi

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): The New Delhi Municipal Council which faced criticism for spending over Rs.90 lakh to give away sweets to its employees on Holi last year has decided to distribute LED bulbs this year keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for conservation of energy. NDMC chairperson Jalaj Shrivastava said that the council is also planning to halve the domestic energy consumption by the next financial year. Passengers peeved by shortened route of India-Pak bus service

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Passengers of the Pakistan-India friendship bus service who arrived in New Delhi termed the shortened route of the bus service inconvenient. In an unprecedented move, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation decided to restrict the entry of buses running under the Pakistan-India friendship service from Lahore to Delhi till Wagah border due to militant threats. Buses to Delhi will now start from Wagah border instead of Lahore. A passenger said this tweak in the route has put the passengers at risk. Another passenger said the passengers were caught unaware and they were not given any prior information about the change. Kanpur, Jan 07 (ANI): Thousands of fish have died in the historical Sher Shah Suri Lake in Uttar Pradesh due to alleged official apathy. The Sher Shah Suri Lake of the Sur dynasty king is one of popular attractions for tourists. Residents of the area said they saw dead fish floating in the lake in Kanpur. They alleged negligence on the part of local municipality for not maintaining the pond. The municipal authorities later visited the spot and cleaned the lake with some chemicals. Chhattisgarh, Jan 5 (ANI): A eunuch, who earned a living by singing in Howrah-Mumbai trains scripted history by winning civic polls in Chhattisgarh, defeating nearest rival from ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Independent candidate Madhu won the mayor election of the Raigarh Municipal Corporation by 4,537 votes against BJP's Mahaveer Guruji. Madhu, 35, belonging to Dalit community, is the first transgender person to get elected as mayor in the state. After winning, Madhu said people had shown faith in her and she will put best efforts to accomplish their dreams.
