Shiv Sena demands anti-conversion law, Politicos react

New Delhi, Jan 01 (ANI): Amid reports of Shiv Sena demanding for anti-conversion law, political leaders gave mixed reactions on Thursday. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that a law already exists in the Constitution and there was no need for a new law. Congress leaders PC Chacko and Manish Tewari also condemned the demand. CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat said that the government should stop conversions being held by its supporting organizations like RSS and others. Meanwhile, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that conversions and re-conversions are complimentary. Jan 1, 2015

Over 100 people reconverted to Sikhism in Amritsar

Amritsar/ New Delhi, Dec 31 (ANI): Around 120 people from 15 families were re-converted to Sikhism from Christianity in a 'ghar wapsi' (homecoming) event in Amritsar city of Punjab. Lately, there have been a lot of cases of religious conversions - mainly to Hinduism - in the country and politicians have slammed ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for not taking any action against it. The families stated they originally belonged to Mazhabi Sikh community and were lured into Christianity. Reportedly, the conversion function was organised by Dharma Jagran Manch, a body associated with Hindu nationalist organisation Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), after people expressed desire to return to Sikh faith. Many have accused that these conversions are done forcefully but Kumar said no one forced him to change his religion. Dec 31, 2014

Political and religious leaders react on ongoing protests against 'PK'

New Delhi/ Hubli, Dec 30 (ANI): Political and religious leaders on Tuesday react over ongoing protests against Aamir Khan's recently released 'PK'. NCP Leader Tariq Anwar and AAP's Manish Sisodia said that protests against such movies which give a social message is condemnable and should be stopped. Muslim Cleric Maulana Mohammad Sajid Rashidi said that there was nothing to protest in the flick and said that if any religious community feels like protesting in the matter, there should be better ways to do the same. Meanwhile, Rashtriya Hindu Sena Chief Pramod Muthalik condemned the movie itself and said that such movies which hurt sentiments of any religion, should be banned. Dec 30, 2014
