Hundreds march in New Delhi for gay pride

New Delhi, Dec 01 (ANI): Hundreds of people danced, sang and cheered in a gay pride parade in New Delhi, the first since the Supreme Court reinstated a ban on gay sex in the country. Participants chanting "Azaadi" (freedom) and shouting slogans such as "I'm gay, that's OK" carried banners and placards demanding their right to love. Some participants said that they had little faith that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government would revoke Section 377. A poster at the parade depicted PM Modi's face filled in with the colours of the rainbow along with the caption "I love Amit Shah". Dec 1, 2014

AMU students protest against political interference in the university

Aligarh, Nov 28 (ANI): AMU students on Friday protested against political interference in the University. In protest the students shouted slogans and took out a march holding banners and placards. Some BJP leaders have decided to hold a demonstration on the campus on the birth anniversary of Raja Mahendra Pratap, an alumnus of AMU, whose family was closely associated with Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the founder of the institution. In a letter to Union Human Resource Development minister Smriti Irani, the Aligarh Muslim University’s Vice-Chancellor wrote that there could be huge communal unrest if the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Pratap is observed on the campus. Hyderabad/ Lucknow, Nov 27 (ANI): The BJP on Thursday slammed the ruling SP government in Uttar Pradesh for raising a controversy over the celebration of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh’s birthday. BJP President in UP, Laxmikant Bajpai said that the BJP wanted to celebrate the birthday of a great freedom fighter who donated land for the development of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). He added that SP, which itself did not do so in the past, can only create controversy.
