No infiltration in Kashmir this year: Indian Army

Srinagar, May 25 (ANI): General Officer Commanding in Chief of Indian Army's Northern Command Lieutenant General Sanjiv Chachra said on Sunday that there have been no infiltration attempts by militants from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in India's Kashmir valley so far this year. Chachra concluded his two-day trip to Kashmir on Sunday and visited Chinar Corps War Memorial to pay his tribute to the fallen heroes who laid down their lives in the service of the nation. It Happens: Book exhibition delights bibliophiles in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 23 (ANI): Enthusiasts belonging to varied age groups attended the unique book exhibition depicting the rich history of the Kashmir valley as a welcome step towards inculcating the passion of reading classics, especially among youth of Jammu and Kashmir. The exhibition showcased a blend of the modern with the ancient and included a wide range of books on history, geography, culture, tradition, ancient and contemporary literature, science and technology, Islam, Sufism and heritage of the state. Speaking to reporters, a student, Manzoor Ahmad voiced the thoughts of other visitors as he gushed about the relevance of the exhibition. The exhibition was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture & Languages in collaboration with the department of Archives and Archeology and aimed to spread awareness among the youth of the valley regarding the value of the rare books. At least 17 killed in JandK road accident

Jammu, May 20 (ANI): At least 17 people were killed and more than 30 injured when a bus going to the Kashmir valley fell into a deep gorge on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Ramban district of Jammu on Tuesday. According to a senior official, the bus was carrying passengers from Jammu to Srinagar and fell into a deep gorge after it went out of the driver's control at Digdol in Ramban district. Helicopters have been rushed to the spot to evacuate the injured to hospital. Srinagar, April 30 (ANI): A shutdown was observed in Kashmir on Wednesday during the seventh phase of general elections in response to a call given by hard line Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and his moderate counterpart Mirwaiz Umer Farooq. Both separatist leaders reportedly asked the people to keep away from polling booths and not to vote for any of the candidates contesting the elections.
