Atari, Jan 05 (ANI): Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said on Monday that Punjabis should not be projected as drug addicts as they are the producers of wheat and rice. He said that Punjab is the transit state from where drugs are filtered in India and the state government takes all steps to catch hold of all those guilty. Badal added that the states like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, where which drugs are openly sold in shops are not highlighted by media. Attari/Amritsar, Jan 05 (ANI): The Shiromani Akali Dal held a protest near the Attari international border on Monday to pitch for "greater vigilance along the border with Pakistan" to stop the flow of narcotics into the state. The Punjab government is fighting allegations of rampant drug use and trade in Punjab especially after Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioned Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia in the drug racket. Varanasi/Amritsar/Visakhapatnam, Jan 2 (ANI): Indians on 1st January kick started the New Year celebrations by visiting shrines to offer prayers. Long queues of faithful could be seen outside major Hindu and Sikh shrines across India. The faithful believe visits to temples on the New Year day bring prosperity, good health and peace in the family. The northern temple town of Varanasi, nestled on the banks of the holy river Ganga, woke up to holy chants by priests. The temple was teeming with the faithful since early morning. Foreign tourists, who regularly visit this temple town for solace, were spellbound by the elaborate rituals. In the northern Indian city of Amritsar, devotees were seen thronging the Golden Temple, the holiest shrine of the Sikhs, since early morning. Many took a holy dip before taking part in the prayers. Some of the devotees said they looked forward to a drug free Punjab in 2015. Temples in Visakhapatnam in southern Andhra Pradesh witnessed large flow of devotees on the occasion of "Vaikuntha Ekadashi" which coincides with New Year. A special entrance gate is made on the occasion and devotees pray and make special offerings. Punjab CM defends state Revenue Minister after ED summons him in drug racket case

Amritsar/ New Delhi, Dec 21 (ANI): In a major jolt to Shiromani Akali Dal, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia in a drug racket case. Majithia's name first surfaced in the Rs 6,000 crore international synthetic drug case when Jagdish Singh Bhola, who is a dismissed Deputy Superintendent of Police, claimed that the youth Akali leader had assisted him in procuring synthetic chemicals and precursors from owners of pharmaceutical units in Punjab.
