Exclusive footage received by IBTimesUK shows security forces in Bamenda, Cameroon, firing water cannons at a student dorm to try to force them to lectures. The Cameroon Teachers Trade Union (Cattu) declared a sit-in strike on 22 November for teachers and students in the Northwest and Southwest, the two English-speaking regions of Cameroon. Independence calls in the regions have been intensifying since October 2016, when a group of English speaking lawyers took to the streets to protest against the use of French in courts and the lack of English versions of some legal acts and codes. Sharon Jones, Dap-Kings singer and soul revival icon, dies aged 60

American soul singer Sharon Jones died on 18 November aged 60. Jones had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2013. Jones is famed for her role in the soul revival movement with her band the Dap-Kings. Jones sang for decades in gospel bands but fame finally came in 2002 when Dap-Kings released their debut album.
