Congress releases manifesto for Delhi polls, promises cheaper power

New Delhi, Jan 23 (ANI): Congress party on Friday released its manifesto for the upcoming polls in Delhi. DPCC Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely and senior leaders Ajay Maken and PC Chacko were also present there. Lovely said that Congress has made only those promises in the manifesto which it can fulfil. He added that if Congress comes to power it will reduce the rates for electricity supply to the residents of Delhi. PM Modi says committed to meeting budget deficit goal

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that he is committed to meeting this year's budget deficit target, welcoming a cut in interest rates by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on the back of falling inflation. In a speech, Modi said his government would cut wasteful spending, streamline the payment of welfare benefits and raise investment in roads and railways to boost economic growth in Asia's third-largest economy. Modi's comments signalled his assent to RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan's call for "sustained high quality fiscal consolidation" as a condition for further monetary easing after a surprise quarter-point cut on Thursday. Petrol price cut by Rs 2.42 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.25 a litre

New Delhi, Jan 16 (ANI): Oil marketing companies on Friday cut petrol prices by Rs 2.42 while it cut diesel price by Rs 2.25 per litre. Meanwhile, the government raised the excise duties on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 a litre. Retail pump rates will remain unchanged as the increase in excise duty neutralises the cut in petrol and diesel prices warranted from crude oil price slumping to about USD 46 per barrel. The increase, the fourth since Prime Minister Narendra Modi lifted diesel price controls in October' seeks to cash in on lower world oil prices to bolster strained government finances without stoking inflation.
