Politicos react as JandK heads for Governor's rule after Omar decides to quit as Caretaker CM

New Delhi/ Jammu, Jan 09 (ANI): Political leaders on Friday react as Jammu and Kashmir heads for Governor's rule with incumbent NN Vohra sending a report to the Centre on the political impasse after Omar Abdullah asked him to relieve him as caretaker Chief Minister of the state. Omar Abdullah told him that the state needed a full-time administrator to deal with the situation along the border with Pakistan and providing relief to flood-affected people in the Kashmir valley. Reacting on the same, NC leader Davinder Singh Rana said that Abdullah has taken this decision in view of the larger interest of the people of the state. BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi said that since JandK got a fractured mandate, situation in the state is obvious. Congress leader Manish Tewari said that the governor's take on the issue would be ultimate decision. Meanwhile, NCP and CPI also called for early establishment of government in the valley. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu calls for positive use of science & technology

Mumbai, Jan 08 (ANI): Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu called upon the scientist community to invest heavily in research and development for the betterment of society. Addressing the concluding session of the 102nd Indian Science Congress in Mumbai, Prabhu underlined the need for developing new technologies but cautioned against their ill-effects also. Science needs to play a pivotal role in the national mainstream, he added. The theme of the Congress was Science and Technology for Human Development. Delivering the valedictory address, Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Ram Naik said the controversy over claims of scientific advances in ancient India was unnecessary. Naik said ancient Indians had made great advances in astrology, mathematics, astronomy, medicine, architecture, physics and chemistry. Female suicide bomber hits police station in Istanbul, kills one

Istanbul, Jan 07 (ANI): A female suicide bomber blew herself up inside a police station in Istanbul's Sultanahmet district, killing one officer and wounding another, the city's governor. Police sealed off the street where the attack happened. The woman spoke english as she entered the building but her nationality and identity were unknown, Governor Vasip Sahin told reporters at the scene. Turkish media later said one of the officers died from his wounds. There was no immediate claim of responsibility but the bombing comes less than a week after far-left group DHKP-C said it was behind a grenade attack on police near the prime minister's office in Istanbul. The group was also behind a suicide bombing at the US Embassy last year as well as attacks on Turkish police stations. Turkey also faces other security threats. Jan 7, 2015

Suspense continues over government formation in J-K, BJP asserts importance

New Delhi, Jan 2 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party once again said on Friday that no stable government would be possible in Jammu and Kashmir without the party's participation, even as the suspense over government formation in the state continues. Two days ago, People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the largest party, had also met the Governor. After the meeting, Mehbooba Mufti appeared to lean towards the BJP as she invoked former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's vision and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi "has a big responsibility" towards the state. In the five-phased recent state assembly polls, the PDP won 28 seats in the 87-member Jammu and Kashmir assembly; the BJP won 25, while the National Conference and the Congress won 15 and 12 seats respectively. Jammu, Jan 01 (ANI): A delegation of BJP leaders on Thursday (January 01) met Governor NN Vohra of Jammu and Kashmir as suspense continues over government formation since the elections threw a hung legislature last month. Governor's meeting with BJP leaders comes a day after PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti, met him on Wednesday. President of Kashmir's unit of BJP Jugal Kishore said the party was holding talks with various stakeholders to provide a stable government in the state. BJP leader Avinash Rai, said the formation of a stable government was the party's top priority.
