Paramilitary force organises skill development programme in Jharkhand

Latehar, Feb 19 (ANI): India’s paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is organizing a skill development programme for the youth in Maoist affected state of Jharkhand. The programme, Seventh Tribal Youth Summit, spans three phases and the participants for the first phase have been selected. The selected participants will be taken to Guwahati for seven days where they will interact with the tribal youths from other regions. The programme, which has been organized in collaboration with sports ministry of government of India, will help youngsters take development initiatives in their home state. Meanwhile, a participant, Chinta Kumari, expressed her happiness about the tour. The programme is also being organized in other naxal affected areas of Jharkhand. The Maoists, also known as Naxals in India, have operated for decades across a wide swath of central and eastern India, and grew in strength during recent times. Feb 19, 2015

Palamu, Feb 17 (ANI): Police in Jharkhand claimed major success after they arrested a hardcore Maoist rebel involved in several anti-government operations. State police and personnel of paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had launched a joint operation to arrest him. Police said the Maoist was arrested from Naudiha Bazar of Palamu where he was hiding. The rebels have operated for decades across a wide swath of central and eastern India, and grew in strength during recent times in areas where poor, tribal villagers came into conflict with mining companies seeking resources for industrialisation. Latehar, Feb 15 (ANI): Paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) organised a health camp in Maoist-affected villages of Jharkhand. CRPF personnel, as a part of civic action programme, distributed free medicines and utensils to the poor in 200 Maoist-hit villages in Latehar district. According to villagers, they are constantly under Maoists attack threat but are relieved after a police station was built in Herhanj area. Meanwhile, CRPF doctor Anil Kumar Singh said that their work was to provide proper medical assistance to villagers. New Delhi, Feb 13 (ANI): India's retail inflation accelerated in January after shifting to a new base year for calculating prices, but stayed well below the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) target, bolstering prospects for further interest rate cuts. Consumer prices rose an annual 5.11 percent compared with a 4.28 percent gain in December, the statistics department said on Thursday (February 12) after it changed the base year for measuring inflation to 2012 from 2010. Under the old series, inflation was reported at 5 percent in December. The revamped index carries a higher weight for education and health services, but has a lower weight for food and fuel items, which authorities say better reflects changing consumption patterns. The RBI aims to keep inflation at or below 6 percent in the period to January 2016 and is widely expected to resume its monetary easing after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presents his annual budget on February 28. New Delhi, Feb 10 (ANI): India forecasted that annual economic growth would accelerate to 7.4 percent in the year ending in March after its statisticians changed the way they measure Asia's third-largest economy and showed it clocked faster growth than China in the December quarter. The statistical recovery is in large measure due to changes both in the way authorities calculate gross domestic product (GDP) and the base year. The new estimate is sharply higher than the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) growth projection of around 5.5 percent for the year under the old method. It marks a dramatic turnaround for an economy that a fortnight ago was assumed to be struggling to gain momentum under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's reform-minded government. India now measures GDP by market prices instead of factor costs, to take into account gross value addition in goods and services as well as indirect taxes. Srinagar, Feb 09 (ANI): Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Monday called for complete shutdown in Kashmir to observe death anniversary of Mohammad Afzal Guru, who was executed for masterminding militant attack on Parliament in New Delhi. All the shops remained closed and traffic was off the roads in Srinagar as well as other parts of the valley. The normal business was affected due to the non availability of traffic. Meanwhile, the state government imposed a curfew across Srinagar to prevent protest rallies on the day. Security forces anticipating unrest have imposed curfew in Srinagar and ordered people off the streets. Police officers and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have stepped up surveillance across the city.
