CPI leader Atul Anjan said that India should take firm position over the issue and Devyani case must be treated as something to restore the pride of the nation. Meanwhile, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said that Indian relation with US is much more than the issue and itsshould not cast ominous shadow over the strategic relationship. Indias Foreign Secretary tells US to treat their envoys on par with American diplomats

New Delhi, Dec 21 (ANI): Following the arrest and strip search of Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade in America last week, India’s Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh said that the US should treat Indian diplomats the way they take care of diplomats from America and other countries. Addressing the mediapersons at the 86th Annual Conference of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in New Delhi, Sujatha Singh blamed media for spinning the matter. India retaliated strongly to the U.S on December 19, urging it to withdraw a visa fraud case, suggesting United States Secretary of State, John Kerry's expression of regret over the treatment meted with her while in custody was not enough. Kochi, Dec 20 (ANI): Folklore musicians, 'Vayali Folklore Troupe' enthralled the audience as they played near-extinct original folk songs on entirely handmade bamboo percussion instruments in India's southern Kochi city. The troupe from Thrissur district in Kerala is now gaining popularity and is known as the "Bamboo Band" locally and is receiving calls to conduct such shows in public for entertainment and special functions. The instruments for the bamboo orchestra are hand-designed, given its final form at Kattappana in Iduki district of Kerala and the raw material is procured from the pristine hills of Wayanad. In the orchestra, the flute is the lead instrument. Among other instruments are Mulam Chenda, Mulam Thudi and Mazha Mooli. The team has come up with innovative instruments as well, an example being a five-drum set, The cylindrical instruments are characteristic of the African 'Conga'. The drumhead is a calf-skin cover fastened with strings of rope while the base is left open and struck with bare hands.The annual event is being organised by the Kerala State Bamboo Mission of the Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion under the Department of Commerce and Industry. India not to compromise on food subsidy programme at WTO

New Delhi, Nov 30 (ANI): Commerce minister, Anand Sharma has stated that there will be no compromise on its Food Subsidy Programme at a WTO (World Trade Organisation) ministerial meeting next week that diplomats feel could be a stumbling block to the deal. Addressing a news conference in New Delhi, Sharma, who will lead the delegation to Indonesia, said a group of 33 countries was supporting India's stand on the food subsidy programme which he said was "sacrosanct, non- negotiable."
