New Delhi, Aug 08 (ANI): US Secretary of Defence Chuck Hagel while on his three-day visit to India, received guard of honour at the South Block in Delhi. Hagel visited the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate and paid homage to martyrs who died fighting for the nation. Hagel arrived in India's national capital Thursday evening and his trip is aimed at boosting defence and strategic bilateral ties. Food consignment enters India's northeast via Bangladesh for first time

Agartala, Aug 8 (ANI): For the first time a food grain consignment from India's southern province of Andhra Pradesh reached northeastern state of Tripura through neighbouring Bangladesh as a part of cooperation mechanism between the two nations. Three Bangladeshi trucks carrying 51 tonnes of rice entered Tripura through the Akhaura integrated check post on Thursday in the presence of officials of Food Corporation of India (FCI). Indian police escorted Bangladeshi trucks as they directly entered the FCI warehouse at Nandannagar. This step has been taken to reduce the cost and prevent a second transshipment at the Akhaura India-Bangladesh border. Congress asks government to explain the hurry to introduce insurance bill

New Delhi, Aug 6 (ANI): Congress leader Anand Sharma has said the ruling BJP government must explain why they are in a hurry to introduce the insurance amendment bill. The government was to table the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill in the upper house of the Parliament on Monday (August 04) but it was removed from the business list after they failed to gain cooperation from the opposition in passing the bill. The proposal, which requires the approval of both houses of the Parliament, would bring foreign investment worth up to $2 billion into the sector within a year of its implementation. Addressing a news conference in New Delhi, Sharma, who is also the deputy leader of opposition in the upper house, said the BJP government needs to be more patient regarding the controversial bill. New Delhi, Aug 4 (ANI): Politicians on Monday hailed the first bilateral visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Nepal, which aimed to scale the ties between the two nations to greater heights. Modi is on a two-day visit to Kathmandu to help speed up negotiations on a power trade pact that is at the centre of his new diplomatic drive. Lauding Modi's Nepal visit, BJP Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said it would have a greater impact on the relations between the two countries. Earlier on Sunday, Modi offered Nepal $1 billion in concessional loans to help build power plants and roads during his address in Nepal assembly, aimed at shoring up support in a region where China is making inroads.
