Silk reeling center provides employment to rural women in Tripura

Tripura, Dec 29 (ANI): This silk reeling center at Badharghat in the outskirts of Agartala produces some of the finest quality silk which is high in demand. Cocoon from various silk rearing clusters and cocoon collection centers in West Tripura are collected here for taking out silk threads. Over 40 locals, mostly women are engaged at the centre in various stages of silk production and are able to earn well besides availing facilities like health insurance and pension. With help from the Central Silk board, the government-run centre has undergone modernization with eight semi-automatic reeling machines and other facilities. In 2012, the state's first power loom silk production center was started here as well. Over the years, both the Tripura and central government have been giving a lot of priority to boost silk production by introducing a number of schemes to encourage locals to take up sericulture. Rajasthan govt's Bhamashah Yojana to empower women financially

New Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje says that the influence of women is increasing day by day in all fields of society. Her government has launched the Bhamashah Yojana for the financial empowerment of women and it will benefit nearly 1.5 crore women in the entire country. The program is effectively co-ordinated with the 'Jan-Dhan Yojana' initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Recently in an award ceremony organized by 'The Sunday Standard', Raje, who was the Chief Guest, presented awards to the Sunday Standard Devis. Twenty women were honoured for their exceptional contribution in the fields of law, art, health, business, fashion, adventure, hospitality, policing, architecture and music among others. Raje said that Rajasthan is no longer a state of women wearing long veils and occupied with household chores all day, instead they are representing the society individually. 'Global Tamil Organisation' conducts walkathon to spread awareness on human rights in Chennai

Chennai, Dec 14 (ANI): A civil society group called Global Tamil Organisation conducted a walkathon in Chennai city on Sunday to spread awareness on human rights. Various college students and cadets of government sponsored public service programme, National Service Scheme (NSS), took part in the event holding banners and placards to raise awareness among people about their rights. The event began by paying homage to the distinguished judge and a human rights champion, Justice VR Krishna Iyer who died in November this year. National Secretary of People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), V Suresh told mediapersons that people remember Iyer for his commitment to the constitution, its principles of equality and social justice.
