Jayalalithaa to stay in jail for now, bail petition adjourned till Oct 6

Bangalore, Sept 30 (ANI): In a major setback for AIADMK chief, J Jayalalithaa, Karantaka High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of her bail plea petition till Monday. Though the bail plea has been admitted by the court, the hearing on the petition will not take place before Monday. Following the deferring of the hearing till Monday, Jayalalithaa, who is lodged in VVIP cell number 23 at Parappana Agrahara central prison in Bangalore, will have to continue in jail for at least a week. Chennai/ Bangalore, Sept 30 (ANI): AIADMK Chief Jayalalithaa's supporters in Tamil film industry staged a silent protest in Chennai on Tuesday. Actor Srikanth said that the protest comes in sympathy and solidarity to Jayalalithaa and that the whole of the state look forward to her coming back. Many supporters and party workers have been protesting against Bangalore special court's verdict to put Jayalalithaa behind the bars for four years in disproportionate assets case. New Delhi, Sept 27 (ANI): Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa on Saturday was sentenced to four years prison and slapped with a fine of Rs100 crore after being convicted by a City Special Court in the 18-year old disproportionate assets case under the Prevention for Corruption Act. Jayalalithaa has also been debarred from contesting any elections for the next ten years. Leaders from various political parties gave mixed reactions on the same. Jayalalithaa has also lost the MLA's post and will have to step down as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
