Jayalalithaa to stay in jail for now, bail petition adjourned till Oct 6

Bangalore, Sept 30 (ANI): In a major setback for AIADMK chief, J Jayalalithaa, Karantaka High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of her bail plea petition till Monday. Though the bail plea has been admitted by the court, the hearing on the petition will not take place before Monday. Following the deferring of the hearing till Monday, Jayalalithaa, who is lodged in VVIP cell number 23 at Parappana Agrahara central prison in Bangalore, will have to continue in jail for at least a week. New Delhi, Sept 27 (ANI): Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa on Saturday was sentenced to four years prison and slapped with a fine of Rs100 crore after being convicted by a City Special Court in the 18-year old disproportionate assets case under the Prevention for Corruption Act. Jayalalithaa has also been debarred from contesting any elections for the next ten years. Leaders from various political parties gave mixed reactions on the same. Jayalalithaa has also lost the MLA's post and will have to step down as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
