Goa, May 15 (ANI): The ongoing Mango Festival in Goa drew a huge crowd of visitors from across the country to savor the delicious taste and tempting flavour of the fruit that is rightly dubbed the 'King of Fruits.' The festival which began on May 13, has been organized by the Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Goa and National Horticulture mission and will conclude today. Around 60 varieties were on display, including the Alphonso, Totapuri, Malgoa and Bhishma, besides others. Interactive sessions and seminars were also held by experts who informed people about mango production technologies, ultra high density planting as well as pest and disease management. May 15, 2014

Badminton fraternity proud to host Thomas and Uber cup finals in New Delhi

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): The proud Badminton fraternity in the country looks forward to a grand event as India gears up to host the Thomas and Uber Cup finals for the first time ever in the country. The Thomas and Uber Cup tournament is scheduled to take place at the Siri Fort Sports Complex in the national capital from May 18 to May 25. India’s leading shuttler Parupalli Kashyap is the captain of the Men’s team for the Thomas Cup and Saina Nehwal is captain of the Women’s team for the Uber Cup. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has already done away with qualifiers and the teams have qualified on the basis of the player’s rankings. Chief national Badminton coach, Pullela Gopichand, expressed his excitement over India hosting the prestigious biennial event. President of Badminton Association of India (BAI), Akhilesh Das Gupta said that all top countries of the world will be participating in the tournament. May 15, 2014

BSE closes points 13.91 down on May 2

New Delhi, May 2 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 13.91 points down to stand at 22,403.89. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 1.60 points down to stand at 6,694.80. Century Tex and Future Retail were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 8.61% and 6.92% along with Marico and Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. with an increase of 6.04% and 4.73% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include Jindal Steel and Pipavav Defence with a decrease of 6.50% and 4.92% along with Financial technologies ltd. and Bata India with a decrease of 4.77% and 4.62% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is down 68.84 points at 13,303.39 while the banking sector is down 16.16 points at 14,690.50 and the realty sector is up 3.32 points at 1,400.11. Cellphones bring 'reading revolution' in poor countries

New Delhi, April 25 (ANI): A new report has revealed that the spread of mobile technologies that have made books more accessible than ever before and thus bringing a “reading revolution.” According to UNESCO, 62 percent of those surveyed said they enjoy reading more after they started reading on mobile devices, and one-third said they use their phones to read to their children, an additional third said they would do so if more child-friendly books were available. According to the study, 60 percent of respondents cited a desire for more diverse reading options as the primary hurdle to reading on mobile devices, while only 18 percent cited cost. The UN estimates that around 6 billion people have access to mobile phones today and broadband mobile connections have seen tremendous growth in developing countries. Apr 25, 2014
