Udhampur, Sep 05 (ANI): Heavy rains inundated many villages in Jammu and Kashmir killing at least 65 people. Incessant rains for the past about 48 hours have resulted in mud slides, flash floods and rising of water in all rivers. The Indian Army has immediately moved in deploying rescue operations in floods affected regions of Naoshera, Rajouri, Thanamandi and Poonch district of the state. The Army has been able to rescue almost 108 civilians as search and rescue operations are in full swing. Authorities declared a disaster alert in the northern region after two days of heavy rain hit villages across the Kashmir valley, causing the worst flooding in two decades. Sep 5, 2014

Udhampur, Sep 04 (ANI): Landslide, triggered by heavy rains, in Jammu and Kashmir blocked national highway, disconnecting people from other districts. The national highway, which was reopened on Wednesday, was closed again due to landslide on the highway in Udhampur district. Jammu Srinagar National highway is the only link road between Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded at various points. Meanwhile, drivers said there was no arrangement even of water for stranded people. Haj pilgrims undergo vaccination drive in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 04 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir government organized a vaccination program along with Haj committee for aspiring pilgrims. The number of Haj pilgrims has increased in last few years and for safety of every pilgrim going to Saudi, the Saudi Kingdom had announced that without vaccination no pilgrim will be allowed to perform Haj. Executive Officer of Jammu and Kashmir Haj committee, Fayaz Ahmed Lone, said that every Haj pilgrim was expected to have a health and training card, which they have to show when they land in Saudi Arabia. He said that normally the vaccination costs a lot but during this drive it was being provided free of cost by the health department. The vaccination facility is available in all districts of Kashmir valley, including Haj house in Srinagar where doctors and authorities of Haj committee have opened special counters. Sep 4, 2014

Flood alert in Kashmir as Jhelum river swells following heavy rain

Jammu and Kashmir, Sep 04 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir government has sounded flood alert in the state after three days of incessant rain. Many villages have been inundated and River Jhelum has been flowing four feet above danger mark in Srinagar. The situation is particularly grim in south Kashmir, the police and local administration have rescued dozens of people from the Kulgam district. The villagers were evacuated after the flood water entered their houses and submerged. Meanwhile, a worker trapped in flood water in Kashmir's Ganderbal district was rescued by the team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Poonch, Rajouri and Reasi - on the Jammu side - and Kulgam and Shopian - both in the valley - have been receiving heavy rain which has affected normal life in these areas. Authorities have deployed over a dozen of Disaster Management and rescue teams in all the districts of Jammu region and water level is being continuously monitored by the flood control rooms. Encouraged by the popularity of Wazwan not just in the valley but across all other states, Mehraj set up a shopping portal where it is made available online. He expressed regret over the fact that solely militancy affected families get relief funds, and not the ones which also suffer due to cross-border shelling. Abdullah added whoever has borne heavy losses due to damage to their crops because of exchange of fire will also be compensated with free ration for three months.
