JandK village council leaders hail Rahul Gandhi for 73rd amendment

New Delhi, Feb 18 (ANI): Around 50 village council leaders from Jammu and Kashmir met Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi at his residence in New Delhi and hailed him for getting 73rd amendment of the Constitution approved by the cabinet in the Kashmir valley. The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference, Shafiq Mir said their struggle for getting the amendment approved has been possible only with the help of Gandhi. Reportedly, the 73rd amendment of the Constitution empowers the Panchayati Raj (village councils), a demand that has been pressed upon by Congress party and Gandhi himself. The shutdown entered its second day on Monday with residents facing troubles in going to their respective offices as the streets wore a deserted look and shops were locked as well. This is the third time within this week that snowfall has brought normal life to a stand still, leading to prolonged power cuts and even blocking of the arterial highway.
